If you are in the a moving industry, you will realize that there are so many scams involved in this field, there are many people who get scammed by cruel movers. With so many moving companies around the world, choosing the legitimate company can be very difficult. You shouldn’t easily fall for inappropriate moving companies. Some of the most common types of scams that moving companies can get you into are as follows:

1. Quoting a price before loading your belongings and increasing it while unloading at your destination.

2. Holding the goods as hostage until you pay the price that they are demanding from you.

3. Running under false license or without license. You should make sure that you check their BBB (Better Business Bureau) rating and DOT (Department of Transportation) license before hiring anyone.

4. Some companies offer an entire package on your belongings in case if any damage occurs. You should be very careful about this. You should know that this type of insurance only covers a part of the actual price of your item.

5. Charging too much for packaging items.

6. In case if you are booking through a broker, you should know that they still have to find a carrier to carry your belongings. In case if they are unable to find a carrier, your belongings will be stuck in between. So, make sure to ask the company if they are mediators or actual moving company that own trucks.

7. Some companies don’t own trucks, but they have a rental truck or plain white color truck. But we normally don’t trust these companies as they don’t have their own trucks, but it is not necessary that all these are bad companies.

With so many unreliable movers and some scammers in the market, the best thing you can do is make yourself well educated about the companies in advance so you can protect your belongings. Make sure that you check BBB rating of the company before hiring them. Never pay any deposits, a reliable company will only ask for a small deposit.
